Crisis Management exercise

BGP recently conducted a Crisis Management exercise for Vimpelcom in Amsterdam, hosted by Bobby Leach their Director of Group Communications.

Vimplecom is one of the world’s largest integrated telecommunications services operators, providing voice and data services through a range of traditional and broadband mobile and fixed technologies.

The exercise scenario involved a request from a North African government to the service provider to shut down the network following large scale civil unrest similar to that seen in the Arab Spring uprising. This effectively amounted to a demand for a denial of service. Issues raised included the safety of NGO’s staff in country and threats to the service providers staff from political activists.

The exercise was facilitated by Jim Dickie and Wilf Pickles utilising LIMIT, our immersive training platform. The participants were able to address the issues and come up with practical solutions, which would have significantly increased safety to those in country, had this been a real life situation.

Bobby Leach, Vimplecom’s Director of Group Communications, said “BGP provided a first rate and realistic scenario for Vimpelcom, which all delegates found very stimulating and also enjoyable. The exercise helped build the team ethos amongst a number of different nationalities as well as testing crisis procedures within the Company, this was a most valuable and rewarding training exercise.”
